What iCans dumpster software costs
iCans publishes its price, which puts it in a small group. Base is $99 a month. Plus is $159. Month to month, no setup fee, seven-day trial without a card.
Two costs aren’t on that page. One is small and easy to miss. The other is probably bigger than the software.
What you get for $99
More than you’d expect. Dispatch, the driver app, inventory, scheduling, invoices, payments, QuickBooks Online, the customer portal, online booking on your website — all of it is in the bottom tier. Unlimited drivers, unlimited orders. Their own line: “Run 1 driver or 30. Process 50 orders a month or 5,000. Pricing stays flat.”
Onboarding is included, and it’s real onboarding — they import your existing customers and inventory and set up the QuickBooks sync. At $99, with no setup fee, that’s unusual.
The $60 step up to Plus buys exactly three things: text notifications up to 1,000 a month, deeper reporting (profit and loss, asset utilisation, lead source, landfill costs), and an AI tool for filtering Google reviews.
That first one matters more than it sounds. Base has no texting at all — email only. If you’re renting to homeowners, you text. So $159 is the real price for most residential work, not $99.
There’s no annual plan and no prepay discount. Monthly only.
The $40 nobody mentions
iCans gives you a free four-page website — home, service areas, contact, booking. The build is free. Keeping it live is $40 a month, and that’s on a different page from the pricing.
So if you take the website, you’re at $139 a month, not $99. Custom builds start at $3,000.
The processing rate, and why the number doesn't add up
Card and ACH run through Tiger Payment Solutions. iCans says the rates are “industry-competitive” and doesn’t publish them. Tiger doesn’t publish a rate card either.
What Tiger does say, on its own dumpster page: “Most of Tiger’s customers pay less than 1% processing fees.”
That can’t be true as an all-in card rate, and it’s worth understanding why. Interchange — the part that goes to Visa and Mastercard, which no processor can go below — is 1.51% plus a dime on standard Visa retail credit and 1.65% plus a dime on Mastercard’s equivalent. Visa’s absolute cheapest tier is 1.43%, and it needs billions in annual volume. Dumpster bookings taken over the phone or online are card-not-present, which costs more again.
So “less than 1%” means one of three things: the markup over interchange is under 1%, which is normal and fine; the customer’s mix is mostly ACH and debit; or the merchant is passing the fee to the customer.
The third one is likely, because iCans is built for it. Their payments page advertises convenience fees you can configure per payment method, and ACH for commercial accounts at a fraction of card cost. Pass the fee to the customer and your own rate does drop under 1% — but that’s a surcharge, not a rate.
Here’s why it’s worth chasing. iCans says it has processed $39 million across 400-plus users. That’s at most $97,500 a year per hauler. At a 2.9% effective rate that’s about $2,830 a year in processing, against $1,188 a year for the software.
The processing costs more than twice the subscription. A single point of rate difference is worth about as much as the entire software bill.
iCans is one of the most open vendors in this category about the number that’s small, and one of the least open about the number that’s large.
Built by a hauler, and it checks out
Ricardo Rivera-Salicrup founded iCans. He’s listed as CEO of Junk It Plus, a real waste collection company that shows up in independent business directories. The story is that he grew it past 600 dumpsters, got fed up with the software he was using, and built his own.
The 600 figure is his own; we couldn’t verify it independently. The rest holds up. A lot of vendors in this category say “built by haulers, for haulers.” He’s one of the ones who can.
Easy to join, undefined to leave
The commercial terms are genuinely good. Month to month, cancel any time, no cancellation fee, free onboarding. Cancelling is by email rather than a button, and there are no refunds for partial months, but nothing here is a trap.
The exit is a different story.
Their terms say “all content, trademarks, and data on the Service are the property of iCANS, Inc. or its licensors.” There’s no export clause anywhere. That reads like standard IP boilerplate, and it probably is. But as written it covers your customer list, your job history and your invoices, and nothing obliges them to hand any of it back.
There’s a second thing. iCans booking isn’t a widget you embed — it’s a page hosted on their domain, at app.icans.ai with your company name in the URL. Every hauler who turns it on links to it from their own site. That’s why iCans has picked up dozens of backlinks anchored “Book Online,” and it works well for them.
For you it means your booking page, and whatever search equity it builds, lives on their domain. Leave and you lose the URL.
The contract is free to leave. The product isn’t.
What users say
Hard to tell. iCans has no Capterra profile and no G2 profile.
Their own reviews page claims 49 reviews averaging five stars, published as screenshots rather than text — so you can’t click through to the originals, search them, or tell what’s been left out.
The most visible outside endorsement comes from American AF Dumpsters, who list iCans as a “channel sponsor” and describe it as the backbone of how they run the business. There’s no disclosure on that page about what the sponsorship involves. Read it as advertising.
The most useful thing we found is a Facebook thread of haulers discussing switching from Dumpster Rental Systems to iCans. That’s worth more than any of the above.
What it doesn't do
No scale tickets or tonnage capture. If you bill by the ton or reconcile landfill weights, that’s a hole. The Plus reporting covers landfill costs, but that’s accounting after the fact, not a ticket at the scale house.
No QuickBooks Desktop, no public API, and no support for running commercial front-load or residential curbside routes alongside roll-off. It’s a roll-off and junk removal product.
The driver app is confirmed on Android. iCans lists iOS on the pricing page but we couldn’t find the App Store listing.
What to ask
- The actual card and ACH rate through Tiger, in writing, before the trial ends.
- Whether Tiger is mandatory or you can bring your own processor.
- What texts cost above the 1,000 a month included on Plus.
- Whether they’ll commit in writing to giving you your data back if you leave, and in what format.
Common questions
- What is the price of iCANS dumpster software?
- $99 a month for Base and $159 for Plus, month to month with no setup fee. Two costs are not on that page: $40 a month to keep the bundled website live, and card processing, which iCans routes through Tiger Payment Solutions at rates it does not publish.
- What is the difference between Base and Plus?
- Plus adds three things: text notifications up to 1,000 a month, deeper reporting, and an AI review filter. Every operational feature is already in Base. Base has no texting at all, which is what pushes most residential haulers to Plus.
- Does iCans charge setup fees?
- No. Onboarding is included on both plans and covers importing your existing customers and inventory and setting up the QuickBooks Online sync.
- Is iCans month to month?
- Yes, with a seven-day trial that does not need a card and no cancellation fee. Cancelling is by email rather than in-app. There is no annual plan and no prepay discount.
